Tree & Plant Health Care

Comprehensive and Proactive Tree Care

Observation and Testing

Acceptable Pest Levels

Tree care should not be a one size fits all approach. At Iowa Timber Solutions, we focus on providing individualized care to individual trees, helping to insure each trees’ needs are met through the use of pruning, health and pest treatments, and cultural controls.

Observation is key to a successful plant health program. When observation shows us an issue, lab testing can be utilized to give us all of the details in the case of a deficiency, or the pest/disease can be identified and the decision on whether to treat or not can be made.

Just because a tree has a harmful insect on it, does not necessarily mean the population will grow larger and harm the tree. Once the pest grows beyond the acceptable pest level, treatment is recommended.

Responsible Chemical Use

When chemicals do need to be used, great care is taken in making sure we use just the proper amount, using the most modern treatment techniques, and reducing our environmental footprint as much as possible.

Treatment Progression

Treating for pests should not be an infinite process. As the pest is eliminated or suppressed, tree and soil health treatments are recommended to improve the overall health and treat the underlying cause of stress to your trees. The healthier the tree, the better it can defend itself naturally.

Client Education

Every visit, we are observing your trees’ health and educating our clients on their trees current and potential condition. We believe it is our duty to educate the homeowner so that they can make better decisions regarding their property and landscape.

Our Process

Consultation & Inspection

Estimate Approval & Schedule Service

Technician Assessment

We will assess your trees and determine if any nutrient deficiencies or health concerns exist. Often times, a foliar or soil sample will need to be taken to have a lab analyze the specific deficiencies that are present. This helps us understand exactly what is going on with the tree, so a comprehensive and specific treatment program can be recommended. Any foliar or soil testing will be discussed with the client.

Once you have a recommended treatment plan and the quote is approved, we will communicate with you about scheduling. Some plant health care treatments must be done at specific times of the year, or during the active feeding time of certain insect pests. Our office will give a general time frame for scheduling if the job needs to be done later in the season, and will follow up with a more specific time frame as we approach the right time for treatment. If your treatment does not require special timing, we will give a specific time frame as soon as the quote is approved.

When we arrive to do the treatment we first see if the client is home so that we can discuss the treatment process and any restrictions. We will then walk the property to understand the scope of work and measure any trees or shrubs that are being treated for their diameter and/or height. This allows us to analyze whether there are any restrictions regarding the tree for treatment or adjustments to dosage for the tree based on size, location, canopy, and pest/disease presence.

Clean Up

Payment

Once we have assessed the trees to be treated, we apply the treatment to the trees following all ANSI A-300 standards for plant health care operations, as well as using the Best Management Practices written by the International Society of Arboriculture. At Iowa Timber Solutions, we do our best to use comprehensive treatment plans that address the symptoms as well as the underlying health issues your trees face. We avoid blanket sprays, using the most up to date techniques and newer pesticides that address the actual pest, reducing environmental impact and avoiding treatment of non-target pests.

Once treatment is complete, we will notify you of any concerns or other tree-related issues we may have noticed while on site. We also place a door hanger on your front door indicating what treatment, and how much was given to your trees. The whole site is cleaned up and any debris taken, leaving the client's property looking just as good, if not better than how we found it.

After the cleanup process, payment will be accepted in cash or check. We work to make sure every project is done to our customer’s satisfaction and exceeds expectations. The client will be notified of any follow-up treatments or additional health concerns.
